Uninstall Mac apps without guessing at leftovers
Dragging an app to Trash removes the application bundle but can leave related support files behind. Mint’s Direct and Setapp editions match a third-party app by name and bundle identifier, show related files by path and category, and wait for your approval before moving selected items to Trash.
What macOS can do on its own
For a simple app, Finder may be all you need. Applications that install system extensions, drivers, or privileged helpers may provide their own uninstaller.
- Quit the app and confirm that no document or background task still depends on it.
- Check the vendor’s documentation for an official uninstaller, especially for security tools, drivers, VPNs, and hardware utilities.
- For a self-contained app, move it from Applications to Trash. Restart if the vendor recommends it.
- Inspect user Library locations only when you can identify the app by its bundle identifier. Similar names are not enough evidence.
When Mint helps
Mint is useful when you want a single review of the application bundle and its conventional support locations.
- Drop a third-party app into Uninstall or choose it with the file browser.
- Review the app plus matched caches, preferences, Application Support, containers, saved state, WebKit data, logs, and launch items.
- Deselect anything uncertain, reveal it in Finder if needed, and move only approved results to Trash.
- Use Complete Uninstall in the Direct or Setapp edition; it is intentionally absent from the sandboxed Mac App Store edition.
Boundaries and safety checks
Related-file matching reduces manual hunting, but removal still deserves a path-by-path review.
- Shared containers, plug-ins, templates, or data used by another product from the same vendor may be worth keeping.
- Export or back up documents, presets, license files, and local databases before uninstalling software you may reinstall.
- Use a vendor uninstaller when privileged components fall outside a normal user-level app removal workflow.

Is Complete Uninstall available in the Mac App Store edition?
No. Complete Uninstall is available in Direct and Setapp. The App Store edition contains Disk, Files, and Redact workflows and does not claim Uninstall.
Will Mint remove every file from every app?
Mint scans standard macOS locations and presents matched results for review. It does not promise that every vendor-specific or privileged component can be found or safely removed.
Should I keep app preferences before reinstalling?
Often, yes. Keeping preferences or support data can preserve settings and local content. Review and deselect those files when a clean reset is not your goal.
